PoC solution from Hikvision

Every single CCTV enthusiast is aware of so called analogue battle of acronyms, such as AHD, THD, CVI and so on. Basically the main idea consists in delivering a megapixel resolution over an analogue existing cable as coaxial one. In the early days of this battle we met analogue cameras with 1.3 and 2 megapixel. The biggest player in this market main focus in my opinion consists in reaching the IP technology in matter of resolution and even compression.

Once, Hikvision has reached this level by delivering CCTV Turbo HD cameras with maximum resolution of 8 megapixels, it is up to them to go a step further and develop new technologies over the “conventional” analogue surveillance systems.

This year, Hikvision have launched the fourth version of Turbo HD product range. Beside the 8 megapixel cameras, they have managed to build 4K UHD HDMI output DVRs with latest proprietary compression technology and H.265+, unlimited compatibility with third party IP camera manufacturer, both AHD and CVI standards, and the list should be completed by the Power over Coax (PoC) version 2 own patent technology.

System integrator will benefit of simpler and faster camera installation. They will no longer need to consider separate cables for video transmission (coaxial cable) and the powering one. Basically, Power over Coaxial has similar working principle as the Power over Ethernet solution in case of IP cameras. It uses the same cable, in our case the coax one, to transmit video feeds and power up the camera. As we already mentioned, this facility removes and need for extra cables, video tranceiver and any other sockets and plugs.

With this new feature, the only thing we need to perform is to simply directly connect the camera and the DVR together.

Power over Coaxial (PoC) basically means that power for both the camera and the back-end DVR runs through the coaxial cable. This removes the need for separate cables, sockets and plugs.

On the other hand, end-users will find this solution totally as “plug and play” with no extra configuration needed for camera access or power considerations.

PoC technology is very stable, and according to Hikvision recommendation is useful for projects with voltage instability issues.

This solution includes front-end PoC HDTVI cameras and DVRs. The coaxial cable transmission can reach up to 200m, perfectly solved the difficulty of power supply to front-end cameras, and can achieve centralized power supply.
